The new helmsman appointed by the Federal Government to lead the Governing Council is Hon. Yakubu Dati, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations [NIPR].

Born to Christian parents, hon. Dati, had his primary, post primary and tertiary education in the cold city of Jos. He attended the University of Jos for his Bachelor of Arts Degree in the Department of theatre arts in the year 1986. He also holds a Master of Art degree in International Law and Diplomacy, and is presently defending his PhD thesis in the same programme. Hon. Dati further holds a Diploma in Airport Operations from Airport Council International, Montreal, Canada and a National Certificate in Education.

Hon. Dati was a four time Commissioner in Plateau State. Prior to his appointment into the State Executive Council, he was elected as Chairman, Mikang Local Council from 1999 to 2002. On completion of his tenure, the then Governor of Plateau State, Chief Joshua Dariye appointed him Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development from 2003 to 2005. Furthermore, he served as Commissioner for information and Strategy from 2005 to 2007, he returned again to serve as Commissioner for Information and Communications from 2018 to 2019 and was later seconded as Commissioner, ministry of land, Survey and Town Planning from 2019 to 2023.

He also had a stint as Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry and later served as General Manager, Corporate Communications of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria [FAAN] from 2012 to 2016.

Hon. Dati is a consummate thinker with a flair for innovating solutions that help address the needs of diverse stakeholders in the course of his career.

Hon. Dati, served in the Presidential Campaign Council [PCC] as the Chief of Staff to the Director General, Simon Lalong, where he applied his diverse knowledge and expertise towards the success of the campaign.

Hon. Yakubu Dati became the fourth Chairman, Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji on 15th June, 2024. He is happily married and his marriage is blessed with children.
