About Us
The department is an academic department in the School of Business and
Management Studies that was established in 2016 as one of the pioneer five
departments in the Polytechnic. The core value of the department is Commitment,
Accountability, Creative and Innovativeness, Integrity and Teamwork (CACIT)
coined from the professional code and ethics of Accountants in line with the
ethical code and conduct of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria
(ICAN). In line with this, students of the department of Accountancy are
expected to dress corporate in and outside the classroom with a compulsory blue
shirt and wine/red tie every Tuesdays. They are to comport themselves
professionally, keep the rules and regulations of the department.

Programme Objective
ND in Accountancy is designed to guide and enable the student to have basic accounting knowledge as technical level manpower who can effectively perform a variety of functions in the practice of accountancy. The objectives of the ND Accountancy are to:
1.     Demonstrate basic knowledge of financial operations of different types of businesses.
2.     Assist in the collection and integration of basic financial data for use in investment decisions.
3.     Prepare final accounts of a business.
4.     assist in the preparation of short and long-term budget plans;
5.     Collect and collate relevant financial information to aid superior officers and management in making financial decisions.
6.     Interpret some basic ratios and statistical and financial data.
7.     Carry out a preliminary survey and feasibility studies.
Understand the principles of financial accounting and their application to business situations.
General Information
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTANCY
Applicant must possess at least five credit passes in SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB O’ level. The five (5) subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, and any other three subjects from the following: Economics, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Commerce, History, Statistics, geography, Government Agric Science/Biology.
